During the month of May at Pretend City children will have the opportunity to turn their art into magic as parents learn tools to provide the support needed to realize their child’s creative talent. All daily activities will focus on introducing and enhancing a child’s knowledge and experience with a variety of visual and performing arts.

May Activities Include:

Imagination Celebration: Imagination Rocks Our City!- Monday, May 7th (1-5pm)
As the sun sets across the busy streets of Pretend City , lights begin to flicker on and the magic of the arts are illuminated! It is time to let your imagination ROCK our city! This evening, guests will have the opportunity to rock and roll with the art of live music performed by special guests, create rockin’ art in the Art Studio, folk art with Young Rembrandts, explore the magic of dance through a hip-hop dance class, as you move and groove throughout the entire city! Imagination is the foundation of exploration and creation and is at the heart of endless possibilities. So, come on down and let your imagination rock our city!

Fee: FREE admission for the entire family with your family stones. Bring in a ROCK that you have found on one of your many family adventures AND let your imagination ROLL as you decorate your family stone!

Way to Play Day: A Package of Learning! – Friday May 11th (10am-3pm)
Prepare your child for playgroups, preschool and even kindergarten! Learn to understand your children’s developmental progress and successfully prepare them for the world.

* Developmental Check-ups from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m.: Assesses speech, motor, cognitive and social areas (first come, first served; limited spaces available)
* Story times, tips for learning at home and a chance to spin the wheel for a take home prize!

AAA Road Safety Day- Saturday, May 19th (all day)
Fasten your seat belts because today we launch our very first Auto Club Day! This day is presented by the Automobile Club of Southern California. Our guests will have a new way to explore the city by focusing on safe driving. It is never too early to help children ensure that they are playing safely in the community and that they understand those important rules which are very important for them to follow for safe play. Through fun activities and new offerings children will enjoy learning safety tips for the road and driving; here’s some of the activities look forward to:

* Sensational Story time: Me On The Map – One of the benefits of being an Auto Club member is the opportunity to learn more about traveling! Today our sensational story times will focus on stories that explore a variety of places around the world and traveling.
* Plaza Play: City Streets – Every day Pretend City offers a variety of pedal cars for children to drive through the city, including a AAA tow truck. Today we will have a special focus on traffic sign/light recognition, directions, and map reading.
* Smart Art: Transp-“art”-ation – This smart art activity will combine children’s creativity and a bit of engineering! Children will have the opportunity to use a variety of objects to build their very own cars while learning about safe cars.
* When I Grow Up Guest: Police Pals – Police officers play a very important role in ensuring that all citizens in the community are adhering to safe driving practices. Children will have fun experiencing such things as monitoring traffic lights, crosswalks and street signs just like a real police officer.

Baby Steps through Pretend City! – Monday, May 21st (2-3:30pm)
Think you can’t do an art project with your baby? Nothing could be further from the truth! To complement our monthly theme, Magic of the Arts, this Baby Steps event will focus on infant art activities with your baby to help in their development as well as give you fun bonding time. Make sure to visit the art studio, beach, and grocery store to take advantage of this exclusive, infant and early toddler only time by engaging in age-appropriate facilitated activities. Don’t forget to pick up a free Ages & Stages Questionnaire! to ensure your little one is developing on track! They’re FREE, fast and easy! Available for Orange County residents only
